A Chanukah Celebration In Hewlett

The Five Towns Jewish Times

Hewlett just got brighter and warmer, as over 130 people came out to the streets to celebrate together the first night of Chanukah. We were warmed up spiritually by the Chanukah lights and physically by the warm delicious vegetable soup and hot latkes (not to miss out on the delicious doughnuts!).
We were honored to have with us a Holocaust survivor who lit the menorah. How amazing it was to be able to proudly display his Judaism and share with all of us his heroism.
It was truly an evening where over 100 people, young and old, felt so proud to be Jewish. One elderly woman walked over to me at the evening’s conclusion and said, “I am so glad that I can bring my grandkids to a public place and celebrate our Judaism!”
A special thanks to Mr. Gigi Roei of Merrill Lynch for hosting the Chanukah party and enabling so many to share the light and joy of Judaism.
